We created this guide to explore the growing momentum behind fractional careers, a trend we’ve witnessed accelerating firsthand, right across our network. What was once a relatively niche career choice has become a powerful new way of working, offering businesses access to seasoned experts on flexible terms, while giving professionals the freedom to build careers around variety, autonomy, and purpose.
Our latest data shows just how quickly this movement is accelerating. Over the past year, we’ve seen a 181% rise in fractional placements within startups, as more and more people look for greater flexibility and fulfilment in their work. On the startup and scaleup side, the appetite is just as strong; the average number of fractionals sought by startups on our network has doubled from two to four, as founders increasingly build their leadership teams around this model.
The shift is particularly visible in the tech space where the need for specialist skills and strategic experience is driving adoption. Across our community, we’re also seeing strong traction in both the US and UK, signalling that this way of working is moving firmly into the mainstream.
